About Nina’s Botanicals
From a very young age I have been in love with nature. Coming from a large family with six brothers and sisters proved to be an opportunity to be creative. We had a large property with a barn & loads of animals. Woods and a spring fed lake was where we spent our time. Before central air we had to be outside! When I was eight or so I found a part of the forest floor covered with enormous shiny green leaves. I thought they were so beautiful and somehow managed to cut an armful to bring to our very busy mother. I presented my bouquet and she was horrified! I had found beauty in something commonly know as "skunk cabbage". or Symplocarpus foetidus. As time has passed I've continued to find beauty in the ordinary. One of my strengths is creating outstanding unique arrangements from everyday findings. I see beauty that often gets overlooked.
When our children were young I took it upon myself to brighten up the main entry of their elementary school with seasonal flowers. It was a boring blank space which I transformed regularly with color and beauty. Big baskets of seasonal flowers full of life and movement.
Full steam ahead and I created a business called How Suite It Is, short term furnished rentals. Ten properties I rented by the week , month of however long one wanted to stay. Flowers were always part of the welcome.
Along the way came Merritt's Grocery famous for their BLT's here in Chapel Hill. Helping the owner, Robin Britt turn this shop into a a destination eatery. Again doing weekly arrangements and a large focal arrangement for the counter. tending to the garden & outdoor floral displays.
I have done all of our family and friends weddings, graduation and dinner parties over the years. The next chapter has me taking my floral artistry more seriously. Nina's Botanicals has been my main focus for the last few years My home studio houses Nina's Botanicals and this is where art blooms!
